Position description

Wärtsilä is looking for a Director, Digital Tribes to join the Digital Portfolio function. This key role will be responsible for developing and managing the team of required digital product development skills, capabilities and competences needed to fulfill our digital ambitions. 

The team will be a mix of both external and internal resources numbering about 40 people in a variety of locations globally, that together will help us build new and further develop existing services as well as augmenting our existing digital businesses. The skills, capabilities and competences are a varying mix of skills from User Experience, Service Design, Mobile, Analytics, DevOps, Agile Project Management etc. You will report to Vice President, Digital Portfolio. 

This requires an individual who leaves and breathes a digital mindset. You need to inspire, motivate, challenge and develop a digitally obsessed team. You need to bring strong product development skills to help coach and mentor your team, as well as tenacity, resourcefulness and resilience. Creating a high performing, agile digital product development capability in an industrial company going through a significant digital transformation is not for the feint of heart.

Responsibilities

• Managing required digital product management competences across multiple locations using both internal and external resources 
• Developing Wärtsilä digital product management competences to match the needs from the new and existing digital businesses 
• Ensuring that on a mid-term Wärtsilä can be self-sufficient with needed digital skills, capabilities and competences 
• Spreading and enforcing Wärtsilä-wide standards and policies on how certain competences (e.g. UX guidelines) 
• Driving continuous improvement and performance across all skills, capabilities and product management competences 
• Establishing, developing and managing tribes, guilds, chapters in the digital world

Requirements

• Experience in setting up modern digital agile teams across the product management competences with proven success in establishing tribes, guilds, chapters, etc. 
• M.Sc. / B.Sc.in relevant area 
• Good understanding of digital services 
• Successful track record of delivering digital programs, products or services and understanding of a potential customer value. 
• Strong track record of driving service design, digital strategies and UX development 
• Strong track record of driving DevOps, Mobile, Analytics 
• Ability to manage competences in a multicultural, multi-location setup 
• Good leadership, managerial and analytical skills; the ability to see the big picture and manage multi-location setups. 
• Structured and practical way of working with can-do attitude and strong time management skills 
• Excellent presentation and written skills 
• Team player with the ability to earn client confidence quickly and work in matrix environment, through creating shared goals. 
• Ability to quickly network within company and to see what’s essential and what not 
• Ability to work in a self-directed, results-oriented environment with pressure and global presence 
• Willingness to travel if required
